Voices of the Mountains
《山的声音》

To me a mountain seems to stand for silence;
我以为山是沉默的象征，
ranges rear up like great waves in the distance
在远处，群山屹立，像无声的波涛，
yet remain quiet as cold clouds;
像冻云一样静静。
ordinary barren summits open hungry lips heavenward.
纯朴的山，朝着天宇张着憨厚的嘴唇。
Mountains grow forests
山啦，你也给了我们葱茏的树林，
where the songs of birds are born;
养育了鸣禽百种琴韵。
they who embrace ice and snow,
山啦，你也曾怀抱冰雪而期待，
let their tears fall in gurgling streams,
春日涌泪泉晶莹，
turning water wheels,
推动了水磨，
as if propelling time forward.
推动了时间的齿轮，
Mountains, when prospectors dig into your green slopes,
山啦，当人们踏破铁鞋访遍青山，
you, in the spirit of self-sacrifice, give up your wealth of gold and silver, coal and iron to them,
你哪怕掏肝挖心捧出了煤铁镭汞金银……
so that we can hear the clinking of metals.
于是我们听到金属颤抖的声音……
Is the mountain really silent?
山是沉默的吗？
Shout as it and you will hear the boom of its echoed reply!
对群山倾心呼喊吧，有一呼百应隆隆的回声。
Have you ever seen a mountain erupt,
呵，你可见过火山爆发的时辰？
lava shooting high, scorching the clouds with stabbing fire?
岩石的熔浆箭火般的飞迸，火舌舐红天上的浓云，
Rocking the earth with an awesome rumble.
动地而来的是金戈铁马的轰轰雷鸣……
