 （七首其四）

曹植

南国有佳人，

容华若[1]桃李。

朝游江北岸，

夕宿潇湘沚[2]。

时俗薄朱颜[3]，

谁为发皓齿[4]？

俯仰[5]岁将暮，

荣耀[6]难久恃[7]。

注释：

[1] 若：好像。

[2] 潇湘沚：湘水中的小洲。湘水在湖南，入洞庭湖。沚，水中小洲。夕宿潇湘沚，是以湘水女神自喻，取意于屈原《九歌》。

[3] 薄朱颜：不重视美貌的人，这里指不重视有才德的人。

[4] 发皓齿：指唱歌或说话，这里是指推荐、介绍。

[5] 俯仰：低头扬头之间，极言时间之短。

[6] 荣耀：花开绚艳的样子，这里指人的青春盛颜。

[7] 久恃：久留，久待。

Seven Poems (IV)

Cao Zhi

A beauty lives in southern lands[1];

As fair as peach in bloom she stands.

At dawn she wanders left and right

Of Rivers Xiao and Xiang till night.

For rosy face the world won’t care.

Who would praise her teeth bright and fair?

She sinks or swims, time flies so fast.

Alas! how could her prime long last!

[1] Cao Zhi, persecuted by his eldest brother Cao Pi, compares himself to a beauty unsuited for.
