王粲

西京[1]乱无象[2]，豺虎方遘患[3]。

复弃中国[4]去，委身[5]适荆蛮[6]。

亲戚对我悲，朋友相追攀。

出门无所见，白骨蔽[7]平原。

路有饥妇人，抱子弃草间。

顾闻号泣声，挥涕独不还。

“未知身死处，何能两相完[8]？”

驱马弃之去，不忍听此言。

南登霸陵岸[9]，回首望长安，

悟彼《下泉》[10]人，喟然[11]伤心肝。

注释：

[1] 西京：指长安。东汉都城乃洛阳，洛阳在东，长安在西，因此称长安为西京。

[2] 无象：无道。

[3] 方遘患：正在制造祸乱。

[4] 中国：此指北方中原地区。

[5] 委身：托身，寄身。

[6] 荆蛮：指荆州。荆州本楚国之地，楚国本叫“荆”，古人称南方民族为“蛮”，故旧称荆州为荆蛮。

[7] 蔽：遮盖。

[8] 两相完：两者都能保全。

[9] 霸陵：汉文帝刘恒坟墓，地处长安东面。岸：高地。

[10] 《下泉》：《诗经·曹风》篇名。

[11] 喟然：形容叹气的样子。

The Western Capital in woe:

Nowhere but wolves and tigers go.

I leave the central land again,

And go off to southern plain.

Facing me, kin and parents grieve;

Following me, friends will not leave.

What do I see out city gate?

White bones strew the plain desolate.

A starving woman cannot feed

Her child and lays it in the weed.

She looks back at its wailing sound,

And goes in tears, not turning round.

“I know not how long I’ll survive.

Can I keep both of us alive?”

I whip my horse and leave them there;

To hear such words I cannot bear.

I go south on Royal Tomb’s crest,

And gaze back on Capital West.

How could a patriot from it part?

I heave a sigh with broken heart.
