翩翩堂前燕，冬藏夏来见。

兄弟两三人，流宕[1]在他县。

故衣谁当补？新衣谁当绽[2]？

赖得[3]贤主人，览[4]取为吾袒。

夫婿从门来，斜倚西北眄[5]。

“语卿[6]且勿眄，水清石自见。”

石见何累累，远行不如归！

注释：

[1] 流宕：漂泊，流浪。

[2] 绽：原义是“裂缝”，这里是“缝补”“缝制”的意思。

[3] 赖得：依靠，依赖。

[4] 览：通“揽”，取。

[5] 眄：斜着眼睛看。

[6] 卿：对对方的尊称。

The swallows flit before the hall,

In summer come, in winter go.

Like my brothers from spring to fall,

I roam in strange land high and low.

Who’d patch my wornout clothes old?

And who will sew the new for me?

The mistress good of the household

Takes and mends my clothes charge-free.

Her husband comes home from afar;

He casts on us suspicious look.

“Do not be jealous as you are!

Pebbles are seen in a clear brook.”

My heart’s brook-clear where’er I roam;

I find still there’s no place like home.
