凤凰台上忆吹箫

香冷金猊[1]，

被翻红浪[2]，

起来慵自梳头。

任宝奁[3]尘满，

日上帘钩。

生怕离怀别苦，

多少事，

欲说还休。

新来瘦，

非干病酒，

不是悲秋。

休休，

这回去也，

千万遍阳关[4]，

也则难留。

念武陵人远[5]，

烟锁秦楼。

唯有楼前流水，

应念我、

终日凝眸[6]。

凝眸处，

从今又添一段新愁。

[1]金猊（ní）：涂金的狮形香炉。

[2]红浪：红色被铺乱摊在床上，有如波浪。

[3]宝奁（lián）：华贵的梳妆镜匣。

[4]阳关：语出《阳关三叠》，是唐宋时的送别曲。

[5]武陵人远：引用陶渊明《桃花源记》中，武陵渔人误入桃花源，离开后再去便找不到路径了。

[6]凝眸：注视。

Censer is cold,

Spreads like waves red.

I get up, but still weary, I won’t comb my hair,

Dressing table undusted, I leave it there.

Now the sun hangs on the drapery’s hook.

I’m afraid to recall your parting look.

I’ve much to say, yet pause as soon as I begin.

Recently I’ve grown thin,

Not that I’m sick with wine,

Not that for autumn sad I pine.

Be done! be done!

Once you are gone,

No matter what parting songs sing we anew,

We can’t keep you.

Far, far away you pass your days;

My bower here is drowned in haze.

In front there is a running brook

Which could never forget my longing look.

From now on, where

I gaze all day long with a vacant stare,

A new grief will grow there.

This is a lyric depicting the poetess longing for her husband who was far away from home.
