王昌龄

秦时明月汉时关，

万里长征人未还。

但使龙城^[2]飞将^[3]在，

不教胡^[4]马度阴山^[5]。

注释：

[1] 出塞：乐府《横吹曲》旧题。唐人乐府中的《出塞》《前出塞》《后出塞》《塞上曲》《塞下曲》等均由此演变而出。

[2] 龙城：汉时匈奴大会祭天之地，在今蒙古国境内，汉车骑将军卫青曾率兵到此。有的版本作“卢城”或“陇城”。

[3] 飞将：《史记·李将军传》：“（李）广居右北平，匈奴闻之，号日汉之飞将军”，因此不敢犯汉境。此处可理解为两典合用，指古代卫青、李广这样的守边名将，也可泛指一切良将。

[4] 胡：指匈奴等北方部族。

[5] 阴山：西起河套，绵亘于今内蒙古自治区境内，东与内兴安岭相接。汉时匈奴常据此犯边。

The moon still shines on mountain passes as of yore.

How many guardsmen of the Great Wall are no more!

If the Flying General were still there in command,

No hostile steeds would have dared to invade our land.

The poet sympathizes with the guardsmen and glorifies General Li who defeated the foe.
