峰峦如聚，

波涛如怒，

山河表里[2]潼关路。

望西都[3]，

意踟蹰[4]。

伤心秦汉经行处[5]，

宫阙[6]万间都做了土。

兴，

百姓苦；

亡，

百姓苦。

注释：

[1]山坡羊：曲牌名，又名“山坡里羊”“苏武执节”。

[2]表里：内外。

[3]西都：指长安。

[4]踟蹰：犹豫不决，徘徊不前。此处指思潮起伏，陷入沉思。

[5]伤心秦汉经行处：经过秦汉故地，内心伤感。

[6]宫阙：皇宫。

The empire’s rise

Is people’s woe;
