汤式

羡江都自古神州，

天上人间，

楚尾吴头[2]。

十万家画栋朱帘，

百数曲红桥绿沼，

三千里锦缆龙舟。

柳招摇，花掩映，

春风紫骝。

玉玎珰，

珠络索，

夜月香兜[3]。

歌舞都休，

光景难留。

富贵随落日西沉，

繁华逐逝水东流。

注释：

[1]维扬：扬州的别称。

[2]楚尾吴头：出自宋人《江庭怨》词：“泪眼不曾晴，家住吴头楚尾。”意为扬州的地理位置在楚国和吴国的交界。

[3]兜：同“篼”，是一种轻便的竹轿子。

How I adore the capital on rivershore!

It was an earthly paradise,

With eastern head and southern end so nice.

Thousands of homes with painted beam and pearly screen,

Hundreds of winding bridges over water green,

Embroidered dragon boats for miles and miles overspread.

Along the swaying willow trees,

Among the blooming flowers red,

The violet steeds were running in the vernal breeze.

With ringing pendants of jade

And pearls and earrings bright,

The fragrant sedans vied in beauty with moonlight.

No more dance and songs in light or shade,

None could retain good times of yore.

Magnificence has gone with the declining day;

Splendor like running water has passed away.
