 九日渡江

汤式

（一）

秋风江上棹孤舟，

烟水悠悠。

伤心无句赋登楼，

山容瘦，

老树替人愁。

（幺）

樽前醉把茱萸嗅，

问相知几个白头[1]？

乐可酬，

人非旧，

黄花时候，

难比旧风流。

注释：

[1]樽前醉把茱萸嗅，问相知几个白头：化用杜甫《九日蓝田崔氏庄》诗句：“明年此令知谁健，醉把茱萸仔细看。”

 Crossing the River on Mountain-climbing Day

Tang Shi

（I）

I sail a lonely boat on the stream in autumn breeze,

The misty water runs without cease.

Heart-broken, I have no verse to write on tower high.

Lean mountains seem to sigh,

Like me are grieved old trees.

When drunk before my cup, I smell at dogwood spray,

Asking how many friends have their heads turned grey.

I may seek pleasure again,

But friends are not the same as then.

When yellow flowers bloom once more,

Who would enjoy with me their beauty as of yore?

（二）

秋风江上棹孤航，

烟水茫茫。

白云西去雁南翔，

推篷望，

清思满沧浪。

（幺）

东篱载酒陶元亮[1]，

等闲[2]间过了重阳。

自感伤，

何情况，

黄花惆怅，

空作去年香。

注释：

[1]陶元亮：陶渊明，元亮是他的字。

[2]等闲：平常，随便。

In autumn breeze my lonely boat sails on the stream,

Boundless the mist and water seem.

White clouds westward go

While wild geese southward fly,

I open the window, lo!

The waves with my thoughts surge up high.

Like poet Tao I’d drink before flowers in bloom,

Wasting my time on Mountain-climbing Day.

So sad and drear,

How can I not waste away?

The chrysanthemums are also in gloom,

In vain they smell sweet as last year.
