（一）

青山隐隐水茫茫，

时节登高[1]却异乡。

孤城孤客孤舟上，

铁石人也断肠。

泪涟涟断送了秋光。

黄花梦，

一夜香，

过了重阳。

注释：

[1]时节登高：指农历九月九重阳节，是家人团聚登高的时候。

Green hills are veiled in mist along the far-flung stream,

On Mountain-climbing Day I stand in foreign land.

A lonely man in lonely boat by lonely town,

However hard, can my heart not break down?

Two streams of tears have blurred out autumn light.

The golden dream

Is sweet but for one night.

This Mountain-climbing Day is passed just as the last.

夕阳西下水东流，

一事无成两鬓秋。

伤心人比黄花瘦[1]，

怯重阳[2]九月九。

强登临情思悠悠。

望故国三千里，

倚秋风十二楼，

没来由惹起闲愁。

注释：

[1]人比黄花瘦：出自宋代李清照词《醉花阴》：“帘卷西风，人比黄花瘦。”黄花，菊花。

[2]重阳：民俗阴历九月九日是重阳节，人们登高聚会，饮酒赏花。

The sun sinks in the west while the stream eastward flows.

Nothing achieved, on my two temples white hair grows.

Heart broken, I am thinner than a yellow flower,

Fearful of the coming of Mountain-climbing Day.

Forced to climb up high, my thoughts go back to my bower

In my native land thousands of miles away.

I would lean on rails of twelve towers in autumn breeze.

Why should I be grieved and feel ill at ease?

常记的离筵饮泣饯行时，

折尽青青杨柳枝[1]。

欲拈斑管[2]书心事，

无那[3]可[4]乾坤天样般纸。

意悬悬[5]诉不尽相思，

谩[6]写下鸳鸯字，

空吟就花月词，

凭何人付与娇姿。

注释：

[1]折尽青青杨柳枝：折柳赠行，是古代的风俗，表现离别时依依不舍的深情。

[2]斑管：指用斑竹为笔管的毛笔。

[3]无那：无奈。

[4]可：整个，满。

[5]意悬悬：情意深切，无比挂念的样子。

[6]谩：徒然，白白地。

I often remember our feast of adieu

When we mingled our tears with wine new.

I would break all green willow twigs before we part,

To write down as my pen what’s on my heart,

Can I find paper as big as the sky above?

Could it contain my endless regret and love?

I can only write down two words: “Love birds.”

In vain I croon the love of the breeze for the moon.

On whom can I depend my love letter to send?
