绕床饥鼠，

蝙蝠翻灯舞。

屋上松风吹急雨，

破纸窗间自语。

平生塞北江南，

归来华发苍颜。

布被秋宵梦觉，

眼前万里江山。

 Passing One Lonely Night at Boshan

Xin Qiji

Around the bed run hungry rats,

In lamplight to and fro fly bats.

On pine-shad’d roof the wind and shower rattle,

The window paper-scraps are heard to prattle.

I roam from north to south, from place to place,

And come back with gray hair and wrinkled face.

I woke up in thin quilt on autumn night.

The boundless land I dreamed of still remains in sight.

Unable to do what he wanted to, the patriotic poet lived in the countryside of Jiangxi. This lyric described one lonely night he passed in a convent at Boshan and his dream of the lost land.
